10 International Luxury Brands That Are Backed By Mukesh Ambani In India

With a net worth of 8,690 crores USD, Mukesh Ambani is the longest reigning richest Indian.

The Chairman and largest shareholder of Reliance Industries, that spans a plethora of business interests from petroleum to fashion to telecom, the business magnate has been a pioneering force behind getting top international brands make a foray on Indian soil through partnerships and high-end deals.

Here are ten out of the 40+ international luxury brands backed by him.

1. Balenciaga

Reliance Brands Limited (RBL) signed a strategic deal in July 2022, with Spanish luxury fashion house Balenciaga in a long-term franchise agreement, making it the luxury brand’s sole India partner.

It was RBL’s second partnership with parent company Kering Group after signing a similar license agreement with luxury brand Bottega Veneta.

2. Jimmy Choo

The high-end luxury brand Jimmy Choo is a British high fashion house that makes luxury shoes, handbags, accessories and fragrances.

In India, the international brand is marketed and distributed by Genesis Luxury – a subsidiary of Reliance Brands.

3.Michael Kors

RBL is Michael Kors’s partner in India, developing the brand since 2013.

Recently, the brand announced Anushka Sharma as the newest brand ambassador for Michael Kors timepieces in India.

4. Emporio Armani

Reliance Brands, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries, inherited Emporio Armani and Armani Exchange when it bought the New Delhi-based luxury retail company Genesis in 2018.

It also added Armani’s sportswear brand EA7 to its kitty in 2019.

5. Ermenegildo Zegna

A leading luxury menswear brand and one of the most renowned businesses in Italy, Ermenegildo Zegna is one of the myriad brands owned by RBL in India.

6. Hunkemoller

Reliance signed a franchise deal with Dutch lingerie maker Hunkemoller International BV in 2015 to get the brand in India in 2016.

7. Hugo Boss

In 2016, German luxury fashion company Hugo Boss AG changed its Indian partner from UAE-based Bin Hendi to Genesis Luxury Pvt. Ltd, that boasted a portfolio of brands like
Bottega Veneta, Burberry, Paul Smith and Jimmy Choo back then.

8. Burberry

The British luxury brand is famous for its cashmere scarfs and trench coats. This brand is also sold under Reliance Retail in India.

9. Kate Spade New York

This brand comes in the category of affordable luxury and is backed by Reliance industries in India.

10. Brooks Brothers

The American clothing retailer founded in early 1800s is the oldest apparel brand in operation in the USA, that produces clothing for men, women and children along with home furnishings.

Apart from these, Reliance has partnered with many other brands like Bally, Bottega Veneta, Canali, Coach, DC, Diesel, Dune, G-Star Raw, Gas, Hamleys, Iconix, Kurt Geoger, Mothercare, Muji, Paul & Shark, Pottery Barn, Pottery Barn Kids, Quicksilver, Replay, Roxy, Salvatore Ferragamo, Satya Paul, Steve Madden, Superdry, Scotch & Soda, Thomas Pink,
Tumi, Villeroy & Boch and West Elm.
