The youth today have become very vocal about sensitive issues like mental health. Talking about has never been common in India. This has led to many incidents as well as made people suffer in silence all their lives.
From celebrities to common people, talking about mental health is a trend the society needed badly. To make things interesting, a 21-year-old has started Tri-City’s first Mental Health Cafe named ‘Your Sugar Daddy’ in Mohali.
Angel D’Souza opened ‘Your Sugar Daddy’ café in the commercial city of Mohali on Wednesday, November 24, 2021. As per Angel, she came up with the idea while graduating with a psychology degree from Canada’s University of British Columbia (UBC).
The young entrepreneur talked in detail about how she decided to open up a cafe with this theme. She said that Covid affected the physical as well as mental health problems of many. It was then that she thought of opening a cafe where she could ‘make people smile a little brighter with the wholesomeness of food, games, and activities.’
With her personal savings and with the help of her parents, Angel launched the cafe last month.
While talking about the purpose of this unique cafe, Angel said that people can come here, talk about their mental health issues and take part in the various therapies offered here. It is also a pet-friendly cafe, anyone can come to eat, laugh, and heal here, Angel added.
She plans to introduce mindfulness, music, and art as therapies in the café to uplift the mood of customers. Angel also plans to offer ‘puppy therapy’ where groups of four or five will be allocated a timeslot to interact with the pooches.
As for the food, the cafe will provide a mix of Indian, Italian, and Mexican cuisine to its customers. Angel being a fan of Korean Drama plans on introducing Korean cuisine in her cafe soon.
The café is established with a vision to create a non-judgmental environment for people to meet and share their personal stories
