| Published on January 7, 2023

When a popular gadget or software is discontinued by a brand, it comes as a shock to numerous loyal customers. However, in order to keep upgrading their tech and to make the user experience more seamless, tech companies have to make the decision.

On the other hand, if a product is underperforming, that also becomes a solid basis for the companies to shut down manufacturing, saving a lot of money for the firm.

And like every year, there were many gadgets and software that were discontinued in 2022. Here are the top 5 techs that were shut in 2022 altogether.

1. Apple iPod Touch

Apple discontinued the last remaining iPod in May last year. The iPod Touch could do everything an iPhone can do except make calls. Apple decided to discontinue the device after the last of its supplies were sold off.

2. Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE)

Microsoft announced last year in December that a future Microsoft Edge update would permanently disable the Internet Explorer 11 desktop web browser on some Windows 10 systems in February 2023.

3. BlackBerry OS devices

In January 2022, Blackberry decommissioned the infrastructure and services used by its legacy software and phone operating systems. While announcing the end of an era, Blackberry stated that it was focused on providing intelligent security software and services to enterprises and governments around the world.

4. Google Stadia

Google Stadia was launched in 2019 as the future of cloud-based game streaming. It never managed to gain much traction with users and Google announced in September that it would be shutting down.

5. iPhone Mini

The iPhone Mini was launched in 2020 and debuted as the iPhone 12 mini. But just after 2 years of launch, the sales of the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 13 mini underperformed which lead the brand to discontinue the model.
