7 Doctors Who Took The Road Less Travelled & Became Successful Entrepreneurs

While thinking of doctors, one can easily visualise a hurried scene outside an operation theatre, or a long queue of patients waiting outside an OPD department. However, it is quite rare to hear of doctors venturing into business. But a few doctors, have taken the road less travelled, and become triumphant entrepreneurs. Here’s listing seven such doctors who along with their successful practice managed to establish successful startups too.

1. Dr Ritesh Malik

Dr Ritesh Malik is the founder Innov8, a coworking space. A doctor by profession who is equally passionate about entrepreneurship, he is also the founder and CEO of Guerrilla Ventures, an angel fund which focusses on hardware companies. He has mentored several startups across various industries in the country
Innov8 was found in 2015 and was acquired by Oyo in 2019.

2. Dr Krishan Ramdoo

Dr Krishan Ramdoo is CEO and Founder of London-based startup Tympa Health, that is credited with created the world’s first all-in-one hearing health assessment system — a smartphone-enabled tool capable of aural micro-suction, screening audiometry and otoscopy.
He believes that a lot of Tympa Health’s success is due to his inferences from years of hard work and experience, of all that has worked well and badly, both.

3. Dr Devi Prasad Shetty

A cardiac surgeon of repute, Dr Devi Shetty found Narayana Hrudayalaya, a multi-specialty hospital chain, heart centres, and primary care facilities, in Bengaluru in 2000. He has also been awarded the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan, for his efforts towards making cardiac and other streams of healthcare affordable and easily available.

4. Dr Saurav Das

He is the founder of Chennai-based NewDigm Healthcare Technologies, and is also the co-founder and Head of Medical Strategy of the company. The company offers public health, technology and socio-cultural solutions, for the rural and remote living population of the country.

5. Dr. Sunita Maheshwari and Dr. Arjun Kalyanpur

This Yale University trained doctor couple are founders of Bengaluru-based Teleradiology Solutions Group. The group provides teleradiology services like CT, MRI, X-ray, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, and echocardiograms to more than 150 hospitals across 21 countries, including the US, Singapore, and African countries of Nigeria, Uganda, Tanzania, along with remote parts of India too.

6. Dr Sabahat Azim

A former IAS Officer and doctor turned healthcare entrepreneur, he is the founder and CEO of Kolkata-based Glocal Healthcare Systems. The company aims to build low-cost but efficient and well-equipped hospitals in rural India so as to make quality healthcare services accessible to its population.

7. Dr. Prathap C Reddy, founder of Apollo Hospitals Group

The country’s most famous doctor-entrepreneur, DR Prathap C Reddy is a reputed cardiologist, and founder and Chairman of Apollo Hospitals Group, one of India’s largest hospital chains in the country. He is also called the “architect of modern Indian healthcare” and was honoured with the Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan.
