8 Tips To Ace Your Salary Negotiations

As the economy is preparing for normalcy, employees are being hired. However, the pandemic has left us with lots of lessons in financial planning. And keeping this is mind, negotiating a salary has assumed all the more importance. Also, discussions regarding salaries are often given less importance and a very minimal percentage of working population actually negotiate salaries, accepting whatever they are offered.

But now, whether it’s your first or fifth job, learning salary negotiation skills will prove advantageous. Here are a few tips on how to do it.

Know and understand the prevailing salaries and also do some research regarding the existing rates in your area of work and industry. Talking to recruiters can also help get you a range of the salaries given at that particular position.

2. Know which skills are required for the position

When you know about the skills that are required at that particular job, negotiation becomes easier. Consider all the skills that you have and also those you don’t, to talk about the salary. More the number of skills, better the salary

3.Do not negotiate against your own self

Focus on the future and not on your past. Never make the mistake of disclosing your past salary or your salary history. Always secure your position and working conditions and only then talk about salary. And never negotiate your initial salary request.
Also, a pay goes beyond your salary. Keep in mind bonuses or expenses like relocation, health-related or children’s educational expenses are included if to factor in the difference between the desired salary and the offer.

A manager is likely to hire someone who can offer solutions to company’s problems and that streak can make you likeable. When you are the top choice while hiring, the probability to accept your demands also slightly increase. Offer solutions and also ask diagnostic questions about companies’ priorities, challenges etc…

8. Always Ask for More

This is the thumb rule while negotiating a salary, as even if the recruiter brings the number down, you will still end up getting the best salary.
