Coffee Startups That Are Helping Beat Weekday Blues

| Published on July 1, 2022

India consumes more than 1,20,000 tonnes of coffee every year. With a delicate flavor and revitalizing intensity, coffee is one of the most consumed beverages in the country.

And many coffee-related startups are making India proud on the global coffee map too. Here’s a list of 5 coffee startups that are brewing the right name for the country, and are breaking everyday monotony to keep you refreshed and active.

1. Beanly

New Delhi-based friends Samayesh Khanna and Rahul Jain started Beanly in 2018, a startup that offers freshly-brewed coffee in the comfort of your home.

The coffee connoisseurs saw a huge gap in the coffee market and when people started approaching them, is when they realized their opportunity. Today, it is present in cities like Gurugram, Bengaluru, New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and a few others.

The coffee from Beanly comes in a special type of packaging, for which paper is sourced from South Korea and Japan, and even their pour-over bags are made in-house. One pour-over bag costs Rs 35 and one dip bag costs Rs 26.

2. SLAY Coffee

This brand of coffee was started by a couple who missed the coffee culture from New York when in India. While Bengaluru too has its share of fantastic filter coffee outlets, the couple, for their love of café-style coffee started DropKaffe Food & Beverages Pvt. Ltd., which sells SLAY Coffee through a cloud kitchen model, beans of which are sourced from the Chikmagalur mountains.

Their coffees too are available in variants like- the ‘Skinny’ range for the calorie-conscious, vegan range, Black range for purists, and SLAY-X for strong coffee drinkers.

The brand sells across cities like Mumbai, New Delhi, and Bengaluru. They get at least 100 orders on average.

3. Blue Tokai

One of the most famous coffee brands to gain traction in the past few years is Blue Tokai. The brand offers coffee sourced from plantations, which is well-roasted and then sold through their website and café.

Blue Tokai offers cold brew bags, pour-over bags, cold brew cans, and roasted and ground coffee, with cans being available in flavors like Classic Light, Classic Bold, Tender Coconut, Passion Fruit, and more.

This coffee startup claims to have roasted and sold 1,00o tonnes of coffee until now, which is quite a feat!

4. Country Bean

Started in 2017, by Aditi Somani Satnaliwala in Kolkata, a cup of country bean coffee gives you a café-like experience at home. Available in a variety of flavors like cocoa mint, coconut, caramel, and hazelnut along with much more, a cuppa from this brand will leave every coffee drinker wanting some more.

The brand is known to experiment a lot and this is evident from the fact that their cardamom flavor was just introduced as a 2020 monsoon edition coffee, but it was so well-accepted, that it gained a permanent place on their menu.

5. Flying Squirrel

Without the usage of any huge machinery, and with coffee roasted just before 15 minutes of packaging, Flying Squirrel is the brainchild of coffee-lover Ashish D’Abreo. This sets it apart from brands that sell coffee roasted months in advance.

With plantations in Coorg, they offer six different varieties of coffee for all the coffee lovers out there.
