Companies In India That Are Making The Most Of ‘Black Friday’ Sale Campaigns

| Published on November 28, 2022

Though Black Friday has significant importance in American shopping history, the concept in recent years has gained popularity in India too.

What is Black Friday

‘Black Friday’ is traditionally observed a day after the US holiday of Thanksgiving. This year it was on November 25th.

With the festive season ahead in America, this time of the year has many discounts and deals on products and purchases. And so, it typically involves people going on massive shopping sprees, buying ahead of Christmas.

While there are many stories behind why is the term specifically ‘Black Friday’, this one according to Britannia, is interesting. In the early 1960s, Philadelphia police officers called the day “Black Friday” due to the sheer chaos that erupted due to massive buyers coming from suburbs resulting in longer shifts for workers, traffic jams, shoplifting etc.

And in recent years after the success of Black Friday, we also have ‘Small Business Saturday’, which involves nudging shoppers to visit local retailers, and ‘Cyber Monday’, encouraging shopping online. ‘Giving Tuesday’ is to stimulate charitable donations.

There are many brands and companies that have benefitted from Black Friday sales over the years. But now that Black Friday is slowly becoming a worldwide phenomenon, Indian companies, especially e-commerce companies too are using this concept to raise sales and earn good profits.
