Ever Wondered What Does The ‘T’ In T-Series Stands For? Here Is The Explanation!

When you talk about the oldest music and production companies in Bollywood, the one name that always comes to mind is the ‘T-Series’!

It is a music label owned by Super Cassettes Industries Private Limited (SCIL), an Indian music company founded by Gulshan Kumar. They have now also extended their reach in film production and distribution too. It is currently run by Gulshan Kumar’s Son Bhushan Kumar and his younger brother Krishan Kumar.

It was first started by Gulshan Kumar as his own audio cassette operation known as “Super Cassettes Industries” which later was named as T-series. After the huge success, he moved to Mumbai to start the production house back in 1960.

T-Series controls more than 60% share of the Indian music market. In the international market, T-Series enjoys a turnover in excess of $4.2 million, and exports to 24 countries across six continents. In India, it has the largest distribution network of over 2500 dealers.

It still enjoys a profitable market in the business and is known for creating soulful numbers in a whole lot of Bollywood movies and also in regional movies.

But the question is what does ‘T’ stand for? Well, a mystery but let’s reveal it.

‘T’ actually stands for Trishul which is a symbolism of power and Lord Shiva.

What is the reason? Gulshan Kumar was one of the most religious men in town and was a devotee of Lord Shiva. In earlier days, T-series was mostly known for releasing devotional songs and videos and Yatra music.

When Bhushan took over T-Series two decades ago in 1997, he was 19 years old after his father Gulshan Kumar had just been shot. Now he has made a trademark in the market is the most subscribed YouTube channel in the world with over 14 billion views, surpassing the likes of Justin Bieber, WWE, Rihanna and Katy Perry. T-Series will be investing about Rs 300 crore per year on mid-budget films and it can take 70% of market share.
