India is home to 137 airports out of which 103 are domestic, 24 are international and 10 are customs airports. And as more and more people are visiting India, the airports in our country too are undertaking efforts to deliver exceptional services and experiences to them.

This was recently brought to light by Skytrax’s Best 100 Airports in The World list in the World Airport Awards 2022, in which 500 airports participated in a dazzling event held at the Passenger Terminal EXPO in Paris, France on June 16. Four airports from India have been featured in the List. Let’s take a look at them.

1. Indira Gandhi International Airport- New Delhi

For the fourth year in succession, the airport in the capital has been voted the best in Asia and South Asia. It moved up 8 places to 37th rank this year. It is the only one to be judged as one of the top 50 airports in the world.

IGI airport has also been named the cleanest airport in India and South Asia. It now runs entirely on renewable energy, after it started using hydro and solar power on June 1, 2022. Efforts are in progress to make it a net-zero carbon emission airport by 2030.

2. Kempegowda International Airport- Bengaluru

The airport at Bengaluru, too, climbed up ten spots to feature as the 61st best airport in the world.

The customer service at Kempegowda Airport has set it apart from the rest, with frequent travelers calling it the finest regional airport in India and South Asia.

3. GMR International Airport- Hyderabad

Going one position ahead, the airport is ranked as the 63rd best airport in the world. A few other achievements include- the second-best regional airport in the country, the third cleanest airport in India and South Asia 2022, and the fourth-best regional airport in Asia 2022.

The GMR international airport at Hyderabad has been adjudged as having the ‘Best Airport Staff in India and South Asia’ in Skytrax World Airport Awards 2022.

4. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport- Mumbai

The airport in Mumbai retained its 65th rank in the list.

The second busiest airport in the country in terms of passenger traffic, it is the only Indian airport voted among the Best Airport 2022 under the 20 to 30 million passengers categories. It is also the second cleanest airport in India and South Asia in 2022.

As per a statement by the organizers, “The event is one of the most prestigious quality awards for the airport sector, with CEOs, Presidents, and senior management from airports across the world in attendance.”
