Where there is a will, there is always a way. It might be scary, tough and difficult, but if you have the desire, the zeal and the strength to push through, you shall succeed.

Such is the success story of a husband-wife duo from India who went beyond boundaries to be trendsetters came up with a never-heard-before idea and transformed it into a successful reality.

What are we talking about?

Repos energy was a small yet brilliant start-up launched by the couple, Aditi Bhosale Walunj and Chetan Walunj. It worked to use IoT, cloud and easy payment methods for home-to-home type delivery models of fuel. You could call it like a food delivery app but for energy instead. They work in 65 cities and work to also help the environment.

Repos

The dream for the duo with a background in engineering and chemistry is to help both end consumers and petrol pump owners do better and avail the benefits of this delivery model.

How do they work after all?

Started in June 2017, the business has two aspects. One, helping save costs and fuel by avoiding spillage and adulteration. Second, protecting the environment by reducing carbon footprint and fuel wastage. Infact, they played a major role in helping the Odisha Government after the recent cyclone crisis, launching mobile petrol pumps – bowsers and working on a refueling rescue boat methodology for efficiency and quick work.

They also have retail outlets for fuel, working in favour of bulk purchases. These are mobile Repos Petrol Pumps (RPPS) which is in turn connected to an online Repos Energy app for ordering.

The mesmerizing journey

The company is one of its kind. It has achieved tremendous growth to now have 300 bulk purchase customers on its app, a threshold of 2-2.2 lakh liters diesel sales in a month in just Pune and then a mass reach in terms of the number of cities.

It definitely took time for them to achieve this success, especially when it came to the right marketing and building the right client base. Today, they have renowned clients like JW Marriott, Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Group to name a few, but all of this took months of hard work.

Talking about the Tata Group, it was indeed a memorable moment for the start-up to receive immense support and an undisclosed investment from Ratan Tata itself, kickstarting their journey with a bang.

Plan of Action now?

The company has gone from a turnover of Rs 70,000 to a Rs 2 crore value, heading towards their break-even point within the next 18 months itself.

They further plan to get better and higher funding, expand their business to 32000 partner pumps in the next 5 years and achieve their break-even target on time. Moreover, the game plan includes reaching rural and remote locations, aiding the growth of the MSME sector in India.

Repos Energy, being the light in dark times for the nation, is not only the right business house in terms of profits but also in terms of their social responsibility. Definitely, a major lesson for all existing start-ups and budding entrepreneurs in the world.
