Kerala Man’s Journey From Night Guard To An IIM Professor

| Published on April 13, 2021

Your course of life can change overnight. This was the case in this 28-year old Kerala man’s journey, as he turned into an IIM professor after serving as a nightguard. Ranjith R Panathoor describes his journey encouraging his friends and family on Facebook to dream big until they make it.

Ranjith Ramachandran, now an Assistant Professor at IIM, Ranchi, shared a picture of his old dilapidated tiled hut, covered with a tarpaulin sheet, on Facebook and narrated his inspirational journey. (Photo via social media)

He shares a picture of his dilapidated hut where he lived. Captioning it as ‘an IIM professor was born here’, his post garnered more than 37000 likes wherein even Finance Minister  TM Thomas Isaac congratulated him on his journey.

How did Ranjith rise from humble beginnings?

He used to work as a night watchman at BSNL Telephone exchange at Panathur in Kasargod. In the day, he used to study at St. Pious X College, always dreaming of making it big with his dedication. Due to his hard work, he was able to graduate with Honours and soon joined IIT Madras. However, he was let down after realizing that he cannot continue studying with his knowledge of 1 single language only – here, Malayalam.

However, thanks to his mentor Dr. Subhash, he was persuaded not to quit his degree and finally earned his Doctorate from the prestigious institution. After 2 months, he became an Assistant Professor at Christ University, Bengaluru.

At the moments that you feel defeated  – it is your choice to make through it or have a breakdown. In Ranjith’s case, he kept his determination strong and chose education as the key weapon to come out of his social and economical backwardness. In fact, the Finance Minister was also inspired by his story.

Do you know someone or are you the one trying to change your life for the better?
