| Published on January 9, 2023

According to Analytics Firm Counterpoint, Apple has a 5% market share in India.

The year 2022 has just finished, and the previous few months have been packed with holiday season discounts on e-commerce sites like Flipkart and Amazon. During the holiday season, a lot of devices are purchased, including cell phones, whether it be for personal use or gifts for friends and family.

India’s best-selling smartphone was the Apple iPhone 13, which topped the shipping statistics during Q3 of 2022.

Counterpoint Research has released its smartphone sales statistics for the fourth quarter (October to December) of 2022, and some of the findings are somewhat unexpected. This was the first era, a high-end smartphone, these too an iPhone, came out on top in terms of sales.

According to the analytics company, Apple achieved its greatest market share of 5% in India.

iPhone 13 tops the list

Smartphones Sales share
Apple iPhone 13 4%
Samsung Galaxy M13 3%
Xiaomi Redmi A1 3%
Samsung Galaxy A04s 3%
Realme C35 3%

The company’s last-generation premium model, the iPhone 13, came in first with a 4% sales share. Despite appearing to be a minor figure, it is important when you consider how many cell phones are now being sold.

As previously said, inexpensive smartphones like Xiaomi, Samsung, and Realme have often topped the chart of the most popular smartphones in India. This is the first time a luxury smartphone has made it onto the list.

Furthermore, it’s the first iPhone to appear on the list.

Smartphone Q4 2021 sales share
Realme C11 3%
Oppo A54 3%
Samsung Galaxy M12 3%
Redmi Note 10s 3%
Redmi 9A 3%

For instance, the most popular smartphones in Q4 2021 were the Redmi Note 10s, Realme C11, Oppo A54, Galaxy M12, Redmi 9A, and all of them were under $15,000 in cost.

While it’s unclear why iPhone came in the first place, it may have something to do with the holiday sales, when the iPhone 13 was on sale for as little as 57,990 instead of the 79,900 it cost at launch.

Budget smartphones continue to top the list.

The top rank went to the iPhone 13, while less expensive gadgets continue to take the remaining positions.

The Galaxy M13, which was released after the Galaxy M12, one of the top-selling smartphones in Q4 2021, came in second. Galaxy M13 sales accounted for 3% of total sales.

The Redmi A1, an entry-level smartphone from Xiaomi that went on sale for 6,499, came in third with a 3% sales share.

Samsung’s Galaxy A04s claimed the position of fourth place, with a 3% market share.

The Realme C35 took the final slot, with a 3% share of sales.

After the iPhone 14, Android smartphones will soon offer satellite texting, starting with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Chipset.

This is similar to Apple’s Emergency SOS function, which sends your SOS to rescue services through satellite connectivity. The fact that the Qualcomm Snapdragon Satellite supports two-way communication is the primary distinction between Apple’s and Qualcomm’s approaches. The first satellite-based technology to offer two-way communication, according to Qualcomm.
