“We would start manufacturing solar panels. The factory is near Greater Noida industrial area and would be inaugurated in January,” Patanjali Ayurved MD & CEO Acharya Balkrishna said in an interview.

PM Narendra Modi is very eager to bring the renewable energy revolution in the country, and Patanjali can play a big role in doing so as solar power industry has not been explored to its full potential so far.

On asking about what made Patanjali enter solar power industry, Balakrishna said:

“This started with our plan to use solar as a source of power at all our factories. That time we understood (that) most of the solar modules come from China. And there was no quality consistency even in India-made ones,”

“We would manufacture solar panels here (Noida plant). We have also planned to manufacture chips and photovoltaic sells etc for it,” Balkrishna added.

In the start, Patanjali will source the machinery from Germany and China but later will manufacture everything itself. Patanjali has acquired Advance Navigation and Solar Technologies Pvt. Ltd. earlier this year. The solar power market in India has started to expand, and solar products such as solar panels, solar inverters, solar power banks are selling very quickly and there is no major competition for Patanjali in this market. So, its a great move both for the company and for India.

Patanjali is also planning to launch their ‘swadeshi’ line of clothes for men, women, and children soon. Patanjali Ayurveda can also enter the restaurant business which is currently dominated by McDonald’s, Kentucky Fried Chicken and Subway in India.
