The one name that the country is chanting at the moment is that of Ranu Maria Mandal, the woman who went viral after a video of her singing at the railway station surfaced the internet and swept everyone off their feet with her soulful voice.

The Role of Social Media Behind Making Ranu A Star

Blessed with a heavenly voice Mandal was spotted by a 26 year old engineer Atindra Chakraborty at the Ranaghat station in West Bengal who then captured her singing and posted the video online which soon went viral. 

She was captured singing a song from the 1972 film Shor, starring Manoj Kumar, Jaya Bachan and Nanda. The video that instantly got viral now successfully garnered over 78K likes, 5.9K comments and over 64K shares on the platform in over a period of one month making her a social media sensation.  

Only a week after the video went viral on social media Renu was called to star in the music reality show Superstar Singer which not only got her the platform to showcase her talent on a national television but also a lifetime opportunity of singing with the Bollywood singer Himesh Reshamiya for his next film “Happy Hardy and Heer”. The song is called “Teri Meri Kahani”.

She has now been getting many offers from radio channels, film production houses and local clubs to perform and sing for them.

Past, Present And Future

Mandal who rose to fame after her video of singing at the railway station went viral on the social media is the perfect example of social media stars who went from rags to riches.

Born in a poor family Christian family, Ranu used to sing at the railway station after her husband’s death to make her living. She also has a daughter who she was reunited with after 10 years when she spotted her mother singing on the national television.

Thanks to social media, Ranu is now not only a recognised name in the country but has also made her way to the Bollywood

Not only did Ranu manage to steal the heart of the talented singer Himesh Reshamiya who provided her with an opportunity to do playback singing by his side in his upcoming movie but also got the support of Salman Khan who has now gifted a luxurious house.
