In India, Startup culture has seen a boom in the past decade. While the trend was already there in the west, Indians started founding some of the most groundbreaking startups considering the growing trends in the market.

There have been numerous companies that have entered that unicorn club in a very short span of time. While some were started by ex-employees of successful startups, there have been some that have been established by leading B school Alumni.

As per recent reports, there are nearly 792 companies, which includes 5 unicorns, that have been founded by alumni of BITS Pilani.

Out of these companies, these are the top 10 most popular startups founded by BITS Pilani Alumni listed as per their year of commencement.

redBus

Bengaluru-based redBus is one of the leading bus ticket booking companies founded in 2006 by BITS Pilani Alumni Sudhakar Pasupunuri, Charan Padmaraju, and Phanindra Sama. The redBus app partners with bus operators and enables travelers to book inter-city bus tickets and hire buses. Its app is available to download across Android, iOS, and Windows devices.

BlueJeans Network

BlueJeans Network is a company based in San Jose, California. It was founded by Krish Ramakrishnan and Alagu Periyannan in 2009.

The company provides an interoperable cloud-based video conferencing service that connects participants across a wide range of devices and conferencing platforms.

BigBasket

Founded in 2011 by Hari Menon, VS Sudhakar, V S Ramesh, Vipul Parekh, and Abhinay Choudhari, BigBasket is one of the leading online grocery stores in India. Headquartered in Bengaluru, it operates in more than 30 cities in India.

ClearTax

ClearTax was founded in 2011 by Srivatsan Chari, Archit Gupta, and Ankit Solanki. The company provides ClearTax GST filing software for accurate GST filing, reconciliation, and claiming ITC.

Pindrop Security

Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, United States, Pindrop Security was founded in 2011 by Vijay Balasubramaniyan, Mustaque Ahamad, and Paul Judge. It provides risk scoring for phone calls to detect fraud and authenticate callers by analyzing 147 different features of a phone call that help identify the uniqueness of a device and attaches it to a caller.

Swiggy

A yet another contribution to the Indian economy is one of the leading online food delivery apps, Swiggy. It was founded by Sriharsha Majety, Nandan Reddy, Rahul Jaimini in 2014 and has a revenue today of US$390 million.

Pratilipi

Founded in 2014 by  Ranjeet Pratap Singh, Sankaranarayanan Devarajan, Sahradayi Modi, Rahul Ranjan, and Prashant Gupta, Pratilipi is an Indian online self-publishing and audiobook portal that enables users to publish and read stories, poetry, essays, and articles in multiple Indian languages like Hindi, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, and Telugu.

Groww

Founded in 2017 by  Lalit Keshre, Neeraj Singh, Ishan Bansal, Harsh Jain, Groww is an online investment platform that allows investors to invest in mutual funds and stocks.

MPL

Founded in 2018 by Shubham Malhotra and Sai Garimella, MPL has grown to one of the most successful online gaming platforms in India. MPL has been the sponsor of IPL for the past couple of years and has a huge user base of more than 6 crores.

BukuKas

BukuKas is a technology startup founded in 2019 by Lorenzo Peracchione and Krishnan Menon. The company helps Indonesian MSMEs understand and manage their financial flows more effectively with easy-to-use digital bookkeeping that traders can download through their smartphones.
