Top 10 New Entrants In EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2021

The EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2021 was recently released and Azim Premji has topped the list once again with a donation of INR 9,713 crore.

In order to issue the list accurately, the Hurun Report surveyed India’s most successful entrepreneurs, including those from the Hurun India Rich List 2021, meticulously cross-referencing the results with media reports and charitable foundations.

Apart from this, the report includes cash and cash equivalents pledged with legally binding commitments for the twelve months from 1 April 2020 to 31 March 2021, and the latest available CSR data filed with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.

While there were many recurring names from the previous years, 17 philanthropists debuted on the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2021. Here are the top 10 new entrants from the report.

1. Rakesh Jhunjhunwala (Donations – Rs. 50 Crores)

Rakesh Jhunjhunwala of ‘Rare Enterprises’ is an Indian business magnate and investor. With a donation of INR 50 crore, Rakesh Jhunjhunwala has topped the list of new entrants this year.

2. Hasmukh Chudgar & family (Donations – Rs. 29 Crores)


Hasmukh Chudgar founded generics maker Intas Pharmaceuticals in 1977. The business has been handed down to his sons Nimish and Binish, who run the $2.2 billion (revenue) company.

3. Rajiv Kumar & Ravinder Kumar (Donations – Rs. 28 Crores)


DS Group, led by brothers Ravinder and Rajiv Kumar has made a transition from being a tobacco company to a diversified conglomerate.

4. Akshay Kumar (Donations – Rs. 26 Crores)


Akshay Kumar who is one of the most prominent names in the Indian Film industry has made an entrance as one of the philanthropists of India.

5. Nithin Kamath and Nikhil Kamath (Donations – Rs. 25 Crores)


Nithin Kamath and Nikhil Kamath have been named as the wealthiest entrepreneurs under the age of 40 in India with a wealth of ₹24,000 crores. The Kamath brothers founded discount brokerage Zerodha in 2010 that changed the brokerage market in India.

6. Dilip Shanghvi (Donations – Rs. 15 Crores)


Dilip Shanghvi is the founder of Sun Pharmaceuticals. He was awarded the civilian honor of the Padma Shri in 2016 by the Government of India.

7. Amitabh Bachchan (Donations – Rs. 15 Crores)


The legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan also made it to the list with his considerable donations for disaster relief.

8. Radha Vembu (Donations – Rs. 12 Crores)


Radha Vembu is an Indian billionaire businesswoman who is the owner of a majority stake in Zoho Corporation, an Indian software development company.

9. Vinod Kumar Agarwal (Donations – Rs. 11 Crores)


Vinod Kumar Agarwal is the Vice-Chairman of Agarwal Group and the Managing Director of Agarwal Coal Corporation Pvt. Ltd.

Politician and property magnate Mangal Prabhat Lodha founded developer Lodha group in Mumbai in 1980, now known as Macrotech Developers.
