Top 10 Safest Cities In The World 2019. Only Two Indian Cities Made It To The List

| Published on August 31, 2019

Pick up your passports and plan your itineraries because safety in these cities is not a luxury but a necessity.

The Economist Intelligence Unit’s 2019 Safe Cities Index (SCI) recently ranked top 60 destinations across the world in terms of their digital security, health security, infrastructure and personal safety. While  Tokyo managed to top the list with 92.0 out of a possible 100 and emerged as the safest city to travel to Lagos in Nigeria was at number 60 on the list with a score of 38.1.

The SCI report further suggested that their understanding of city safety has changed in recent years. With issues such as terrorism and climate change increasingly on people’s minds, the index’s compilers say it now takes into account the ability of a city to “bounce back” after a natural or man-made disaster.

Mumbai stands on the 45th position on the list of only 60 cities in the world. New Delhi is in poorer condition as it stands on 52nd position. New Delhi is near Dhaka and Karachi which are on 56 and 57 respectively.

While analyzing a city’s resilience, the Safe Cities Index  looked at the emergency services available in the city, transport facilities, catastrophe insurance, disaster-risk development and cyber-security preparedness.

Here’s the list of top 10 safest cities to travel to:

1. Tokyo, Japan

2. Singapore

3. Osaka, Japan

4. Amsterdam, the Netherlands

5. Sydney, Australia

6. Toronto, Canada

7. Washington DC, US

8. Copenhagen, Denmark

9. Seoul, South Korea

10. Melbourne, Australia
