WhatsApp To Launch Its Voice & Video Call Feature On Web

| Published on January 24, 2021

After having a rocky start to the year with its updated privacy policy, WhatsApp has been able to create a buzz yet again. WhatsApp has started rolling out the video and voice call feature to some of the web users. At the moment, the video and voice calling feature are only available on the mobile version of the messaging app.

With the world moved towards the ‘work from home’ culture during the pandemic, these features have become more popular. It only was a matter of time when WhatsApp would introduce these features to its users.

Several people are witnessing the voice and video option on their WhatsApp Web. However, it is still available only for beta testers, which means, users who are relying on the test build of the app, and not the public version.

The stable version is soon to be released in the coming days. Though many people took to Twitter to share the screenshots of their web WhatsApp, the feature was spotted by a Twitter user Guillermo Tomoyose from Argentina.

The web version of the feature is set to have a different experience than the mobile version. When a user receives or makes a call, a separate pop-up window will open, allowing the user to control the call. Just like mobile, Web users will be able to view their call history in a separate tab.

These new features have surely garnered a lot of positive attention from its users which were necessary for the company since its privacy policy debacle. Though the company said that the features are optional, the Indian government has asked the messaging app to withdraw its privacy policy changes.

Other than the features and privacy policy update, WhatsApp is also working on several other features which include multi-device support, JioMart integration, and offering online insurance services.
