Zomato And Pune Hotel fined Rs 55,000 For Delivering Chicken To A Vegetarian

Zomato, the online food delivery aggregator recently landed in trouble for delivering non-vegetarian food instead of the original order of vegetarian dish to a Pune based lawyer. 

Shanmukh Deshmukh, a lawyer by profession was recently delivered non-vegetarian food not just once but twice. As per the reports Deshmukh had ordered Paneer Butter Masala but was delivered with Butter Chicken instead. The report further mentioned that since the curries of both the dished look alike the customer didn’t realise it was a chicken dish and ate it. 

Followed by the horrific incident, a Pune Consumer Court has directed Zomato along with the hotel to pay a fine of Rs. 55,000 within a period of 45 days to the city based lawyer. Both the responsible parties are to pay Rs. 50,000 for the deficiency in service and the remaining amount for mental harassment of the lawyer who consumed non-vegetarian food thinking it as a vegetarian dish. 

While the hotel admitted its mistake in front of the forum, Zomato stated that the lawyer had complained against the food delivery aggregator to defame them even after they refunded the complete amount paid by him. They further added that the error was with the hotel management as they delivered the wrong order.
